A&E developing remake of French drama ‘The Returned’

The dead are suddenly everywhere. No doubt inspired by the huge ratings of “The Walking Dead,” there are several new shows about what happens when the dead start returning. But viewers with queasy stomachs should rest easy knowing that the new shows feature the dead that aren’t quite as bloodthirsty as the AMC zombies.

Besides the upcoming ABC drama, “Resurrection,” based on the book “The Returned,” which is about loved ones returning mysteriously all over the world, there’s now “The Returned,” which is being developed by A&E and is based on the hit French drama “Les Revenants.”

The French series, also about loved ones returning mysteriously, was based on a French film of the same name and was well received when it aired there last fall.

While no writer has officially been announced for the American remake, Deadline reports that “Lost” show runner Carlton Cuse is in talks to do the adaptation.

Meanwhile, for those who don’t mind reading subtitles, the original French version will begin airing on Sundance Channel on Halloween. You can watch it with a loved one, living or otherwise.
