Caitlyn Jenner is joining the third season of Amazon’s “Transparent,” the show’s creator, Jill Soloway, informed the Associated Press on Saturday at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Having Jenner on the show is “a dream come true” Soloway said. “We are all part of the same community.”

“Transparent” centers around the members of the Pfefferman family as they come to terms with the transition of Maura Pfefferman (formerly Mort), a retired college professor who has recently shared with his ex-wife and their three children his lifelong identification as a woman.

Jenner seems like a natural fit for the show’s universe, having undergone her own very public transition last year, even coming out as transgender on the cover of Vanity Fair.

“A lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, ‘I Am Cait,’” Soloway told the Associated Press. “Lots of crossover. Lots of friends.”

“Transparent” and E’s “I Am Cait” also share unique thematic beats beyond the obvious, as both Maura and Caitlyn are both confronted repeatedly with instances of their own privilege, even within the trans community itself.

In his acceptance speech for performance by a male actor in a comedy series at January’s Screen Actors Guild awards, Jeffrey Tambor said, “I play Maura Pfefferman. She’s very entitled and she has a lot of money, and I would just like to dedicate this award to the non-Maura Pfeffermans who don’t have a lot of cash for their operations, for their medicines, for their freedom.”

It’s a message often echoed in episodes of “I Am Cait,” with Jenner often needing to be gently upbraided by trans friends for not understanding that transitioning is often a very different process without money to pave the way.

Soloway declined to reveal who Jenner would be playing or how large a part it would be, but did mention that Jenner’s scenes would begin filming next week.
