Charlie Sheen will appear live on the “Today” show Tuesday to make “a revealing personal announcement,” NBC announced Monday.

The 50-year-old “Anger Management” star is expected to appear in the show’s second half-hour, starting at 7:30 a.m., and again in the 8 a.m. half-hour. Matt Lauer will conduct the interview.

It’s hardly the first sit-down for the two. In 2011, after the meltdown that included him losing TV’s highest-paying acting gig on “Two and a Half Men,” Sheen told Lauer that all that drama “was like being shot out of a cannon into another cannon.”

In March 2012, a year after the meltdown, Sheen admitted to Lauer that some of his behavior was, in hindsight, “a little cringeable” -- that coming after the host brought up the idea that 12 months prior, the notion that the actor wouldn’t survive his spin-out wasn’t unreasonable.

News of Tuesday’s “Today” appearance comes simultaneously with the National Enquirer blasting out a story about the HIV status of the notorious ladies’ man. The Enquirer says the report is the result of an 18-month investigation and alleges that Sheen has known for four years that he is HIV-positive.

Publicist Jeff Ballard, who had been representing Sheen, said in a statement Monday that they had “parted ways” after “a disagreement on how to handle a situation.”

“We have had a 35-year friendship and I love him,” Ballard said. “I wish him nothing but the best.” He did not say when their professional split occurred.
