Conan O’Brien announces he’s hosting MTV Movie Awards

Conan O’Brien did MTV a huge favor on Tuesday night by forgoing the standard press release and telling his viewers directly that he was going to be the host of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.

O’Brien made the announcement at his desk, accompanied by cheap-looking knockoffs of some of entertainment’s most prestigious awards and more: the Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG Award, the Peabody Award and the Nobel Peace Prize.

But what does O’Brien think of those awards? “They’re all garbage!” he screamed.

“There’s only one award that matters,” he said. It’s the MTV Movie Award.

Yes, O’Brien claims it’s been his “lifelong dream” to host the awards, which will take place on April 13 this year at the Nokia Theatre.

And to entice fans to watch, Andy Richter even checked the other Sunday night programming that night, so there would be no conflict with “True Detective” or “The Walking Dead.” There will be conflict with “Game of Thrones,” but HBO reruns it so much anyway, you’re still free to watch.

You’ll watch, right? Right? O’Brien really wants you to.
