This post is not for everybody. Before continuing, ask yourself: Did you laugh at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boon Isaacs’ gaffe Thursday, when she called Oscar-nominated cinematographer Dick Pope, “Dick Poop”? If not, then you’re better off reading stories elsewhere on the site or perhaps the works of Dostoyevsky. For everyone else who at least snickered at the name “Dick Poop,” welcome! Please read on.

On Thursday night’s show, Conan O’Brien brought up the flub and then carried it to its only natural conclusion.

“It’s unfortunate,” O’Brien said as the audience giggled. “We’re all too mature to laugh at that.”

More giggles.

“You’re hearing laughter of compassion.”

“I think that flub she made, really made her lose her composure,” he continued. “Because it all went rapidly downhill after that.”

And then he played the clip. If you thought “Dick Poop” made you laugh, try to watch it with a straight face.

Meanwhile, Dick Pope is taking the whole thing in stride. On Thursday, he told The Times: “I’ve been called a lot worse in my time. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest.”

Let’s hope “Poop Poop Simmons” has an equally strong sense of humor.
