‘Game of Thrones’ exhibit to tour five countries

The prop and costume crew for HBO’s lavish fantasy series “Game of Thrones” has worked overtime to provide countless swords, helmets, pieces of armor and fantastic gowns to the production. With principal photography wrapped on season three, all those original items won’t sit unloved in a warehouse awaiting the filming of season four; they’re going to hit the road.

Planned to coincide with the series’ third-season premiere March 31, HBO is mounting its first-ever touring “Game of Thrones” exhibition, currently slated to appear in five cities worldwide: Toronto; New York; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Amsterdam; and Belfast, Northern Ireland. (Belfast is the home of Paint Hall Studios, the primary filming studio for the series).

The exhibition was overseen by the show’s costume designer, Michele Clapton, and will include items such as King Joffrey’s crossbow, the swords Ice and Longclaw, crowns, armor, jewelry, books and more. In addition, the exhibit will feature an interactive simulation of the Battle of Blackwater Bay, the climactic land and sea assault on King’s Landing that occurred near the end of season two.

And of course the exhibit will feature the Iron Throne, ready for anyone to sit in and get their picture taken. The costumes and weaponry may be one of a kind, but HBO is still offering fans their very own take-home Iron Throne replica on its website for a cool $30,000. (Plus a $1,800 shipping surcharge).

The exhibit, which is free to the public, will make its debut in Toronto at the Design Exchange on March 9.
