Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn is giving her fans a chance to pick the helmet she will wear to compete in the Winter Oympics in Sochi.

The ski champion teamed with fashion designer Cynthia Rowley to design four options, and fans can view them and vote for their favorites on Vonn’s Facebook page.

Vonn likes getting her fans involved. For the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she held a contest to allow a member of the public to design her headgear -- and she went on to win gold in the downhill event. (She has also won six consecutive World Cup season titles in the downhill discipline, four consecutive titles in Super G and three consecutive titles in the combined.)

Vonn, whose surgically repaired knee gave her trouble during a race in France on Saturday as boyfriend Tiger Woods looked on, told the AP she plans to take it easy and race “really minimal races” between now and the Olympics, to ensure she is in shape to ski then.

As for the helmet designs, voting began Thursday, and by mid-morning there were already about 3,000 votes.

[Update: Organizers of the contest said later Thursday that the contest runs through Jan. 3.]
