Gap x GQ Best New Menswear Designers collection drops Tuesday

The Gap’s limited-edition capsule collection with GQ magazine’s 2013 best new menswear designers in America -- including Venice-based Paige Mycoskie of Aviator Nation fame -- is set to hit shelves Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The collection, which includes apparel (think oxfords, chambray shirts, utility pants, denim), light outerwear (blazers, vests, parkas and waxed field jackets) and accessories (hats, belts, tweed ties, backpacks and scarves) ranges in price from $30 -- which will get you a graphic wave T-shirt designed by Aviator Nation’s Mycoskie -- to $348 (a suede baseball jacket by Bespoken’s Sammy and Liam Fayed).

In between are things like a shawl neck cardigan designed by Baldwin’s Matt Baldwin ($68) and a waxed canvas rucksack designed by Ernest Alexander’s Ernest Alexander Sabine ($108).

“We were very excited to collaborate with such a bright group of emerging designers,” said Gap’s vice president of global menswear design Tony Kretten in a news release announcing the collection. “Their unique points of view really complement Gap’s casual American style, and we look forward to sharing this collection with our customers across the globe.”

It’s the second season that the San Francisco-based retailer has collaborated on a capsule collection with the winners of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America project, an annual roundup of up-and-coming design talent that began in 2007.

GQ creative director Jim Moore said in the news release that the magazine “is thrilled to partner once again with Gap to expose this year’s impressive talents to a global audience through an expanded collection of new menswear that celebrates each designer’s individual spirit.”

The collection will be available starting Tuesday at select Gap stores worldwide (including the Grove at Farmers Market, Beverly Hills and Century City locations locally) as well as online through www.gap.com.
