Spice up holiday shopping with pop-ups and sample sales

If you’re looking for something a little different in holiday shopping, check out these events that Los Angeles retailers have planned over the next week. Shopping parties, sample sales and trunk shows may turn up some interesting finds.

Events

Vintage lovers can wrap up their shopping on Saturday during the holiday edition of Clever Vintage Clothing’s Vintage Boutique. Jewelry, clothing, antique textiles and hats are among the wares to be offered by a variety of dealers. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles. Tickets at the door start at $10, but free and discounted tickets can be found in advance on eventbrite.

Gap Styld is inviting customers at two local Gap stores to an evening of styling, shopping and sipping from 6 to 8 p.m Wednesday. Guests can shop gift guide picks from The Glitter Guide and Justina Blakeney and work one-on-one with Gap stylists to create festive looks. The event is taking place at Gap stores at the Grove, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles and South Coast Plaza, 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.

Sumi’s, the Los Feliz boutique featuring handmade and independent designs, hosts a “Gents Night Out” from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. The event will feature handmade wallets by Brooklyn-based designer Jack Sutterc of TGT, men’s grooming products that are handmade in Montreal, Canada from Clark & James Grooming Co., bow ties from San Francisco’s Tasty Ties and jewelry from L.A. -based Lzzr Jewelry. A portion of the night’s proceeds are pledged to Luxe Paws, a pet adoption and animal rescue organization. Sumi’s is at 1812 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles.

Pop-ups

More than 20 fashion, accessory and beauty brands are expected to participate in Shop Till You Pop LA, a two-day holiday shopping event hosted by style bloggers Kier Mellour, Sydne Summer, Lindsay Caldwell and Jamie Stone. The event is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the W West Hollywood, 6250 Hollywood Blvd. The event will include manis by the Painted Nail, giveaways every hour and more. A portion of proceeds are to go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. RSVPs are required to RSVP@popyourshop.com

DSTLD denim plans a multi-brand pop-up shop from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the DSTLD DNM Bar, 8899 Beverly Blvd., West Hollywood. The event will include a DJ, free cocktails and makeovers.

Sample and warehouse sales

Cynthia Vincent has scheduled a sample sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Cooper Building, Ste. 422, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles. Cash only.

Chic Little Devil’s holiday sample sale is planned from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday on the 11th floor of the Bendix Building, 1206 Maple Ave., Los Angeles. Fashion, accessories, jewelery and more from dozens of designers will be offered at up to 90% off.

Black Halo’s fall warehouse sale is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 648 Mateo St., Los Angeles. All items are $100 or less. Cash and credit cards only.

Zoe Chicco is having a sample sale from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 453 S. Spring St., Ste. 914, in downtown L.A. Prices are 50% off retail

Apolis is offering American made and/or sustainable menswear at up to 75% off in a sample sale scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at 836 Traction Ave., Los Angeles.

James Perse is having a sample sale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at James Perse headquarters, 4144 Glencoe Ave., Marina del Rey. Prices on men’s and women’s collections will be 50% to 75% off. Cash or credit card only.

Trunk shows

Le Bloc jewelry has scheduled its first trunk show from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Intermix, 225 28th St., Santa Monica, in the Brentwood Country Mart. Champagne and light bites will be served while customers design their own necklaces and bracelets. Prices start at $110 for a chain bracelet, $125 for a chain necklace.

Openings

Havaianas, the Brazilian sandals, has opened a store at the Original Farmer’s Market, 6333 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles. The store carries footwear for men, women and children and will be the brand’s first retail store carrying the 2015 sandal and accessories collections.

Diane von Furstenberg has opened a boutique at the Grove, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles. The shop offers the full range of the brand’s ready to wear including dresses, sportswear and eveningwear, along with accesssories.
