The scene: After mingling on the expansive lawn, the crowd placed bids at silent auction tables and lined up for short ribs, salmon and salads before settling down at long tables sprinkled with crystals.

Official ceremonies followed, which included Youth of the Year honors going to 17-year-old Mariarely Cruz. Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers treated guests to a full-length concert.

The dress code: Given the suggestion of “Malibu Chic,” women turned up in everything from casual duds to long dresses and more than a few gents sported hats. In consideration of the outdoor setup, lawn shoes and wraps were advised. Cindy Crawford topped her trousers with a grape-hued leather jacket and when asked about her interpretation of the code, she laughed, noting, “I’m not wearing spike heels.”

Quotes of note: A longtime supporter of the club, Crawford praised the club’s ability to tap into the talent of the youngsters. Recalling a program she once presented for members called “Life Is Your Runway,” Crawford said: “Self-esteem is what it’s all about.”

The numbers: Tickets ranged from $500 each, and tables sold for as much as $7,500, with many guests generously adding to the final tally by raising auction paddles to pay for club projects.
