New York Fashion Week: Mara Hoffman lightens up

Share

Mara Hoffman moved on from the busy, kaleidoscopic prints that have become her signature, showing a spring collection titled “The Sunrisers” which began with an all-white look.

The inspiration: “The idea of being light in all ways,” according to the show notes. Instead of digitized prints, which, let’s face it, have had more than their moment in the fashion sun, she introduced a faded color palette and relaxed silhouettes in gauze, cotton and linen.

The look: All about ease.

Key pieces: The first look, a short-sleeve white linen button down shirt with leafy appliques, worn ‎tucked into white linen culottes, and accessorized with a smart straw hat, set the tone. Sunrise beams maxi dress. Faded rainbow easy breezy dress, button down shirt and high waist trousers. Linen checker motif beaded crop top over full skirt. Loom print swimsuit.

The verdict: Hoffman was smart to move on from her now-ubiquitous prints, and give fans something new. The result was a more grownup look that tapped into spring’s trend toward a looser silhouette, with high waist trousers, culottes and full skirts.
