Paris Haute Couture 2014: Red-carpet-ready looks from Zuhair Murad

The event: Zuhair Murad, the darling of daring, baring young Hollywood, presented his fall 2014 collection in Paris Thursday at the monumental Palais des Beaux-Arts, part of France’s National School of Fine Arts complex.

The crowd: Never mind that this show wasn’t the star-studded affair of the sort that characterizes so much of Paris haute couture week. In recent years, so many A-listers -- Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Stewart, Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Amy Adams, Shakira and more -- have worn the Lebanese designer’s gowns to premieres, awards shows and other high-profile occasions that Murad has by now become world-famous to followers of fashion.

The collection: “Glam Futurism” and “Glamour Incarnate” headed the first two paragraphs in the program, so the overall red-carpet aura came as no surprise. Murad’s fall collection, in fact, seemed destined for the spotlight, with gowns in rich jewel tones, gleaming silver and dramatic combinations of black and white.

Bias-cut ball gowns, fitted columns and thigh-high cocktail dresses featured intricate lace, bold cutouts and geometric patterns of body-revealing beadwork, all leading up to an elaborately detailed, silver-accented wedding gown, the better to fit into the final paragraph’s description: “The Quintessence of Refinement.”
