Shinola opens West Coast flagship in Silver Lake

Share

Shinola -- the brand of watches, leather goods and bicycles that adopted the name of a vintage shoe polish when it sprang to life in 2011 -- opened its first West Coast flagship on Friday.

The company is known for making its wares in Detroit. As Chief Executive Officer Steve Bock told our Adam Tschorn last year, “Detroit as the underdog [and] rebuilding against the odds is a powerful story, and the American story of resilience and triumph over adversity really seemed to resonate internationally.”

The new flagship is located in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood, which also has potent meaning for the brand. In a news release Bock found similarities in Silver Lake’s embrace of the arts community and Shinola’s embrace of craftsmanship. “It’s the ideal setting to open Shinola’s first location on the West Coast,” Bock said.
