The Movember ‘stache charity grow is sprouting up all over

We’re only five days into the charity ‘stache-growing season and the Movember movement, now in its 10th year, seems to be sprouting up all over the place, from the “Today” show anchor desk to 7 For All Mankind Kind jeans to the Internet -- where Yahoo is reporting a huge spike in searches for both “Movember” and the phrase “No Shave November.”

Last year a bunch of guys at the offices of L.A.-based premium denim brand 7 For All Mankind (including, we’re told, the brand’s president, Barry Miguel) grew out their lip spinach for the cause. Apparently the label decided to put its money where its mouth is (well, just above it, technically) and signed on as one of this year’s official sponsors.

To that end, the company has issued a limited-edition 7 For All Mankind X Movember collaboration that includes three fits of men’s denim (the Slimmy Slim Straight Leg, the Classic Straight Leg and the Carsen Modern Straight Leg) with Movember’s logo printed on the inner waistband and on the pocket bags alongside all-over print handlebar mustaches. A stealth ‘stache tag also graces the right back pocket of each pair.

For each pair of the $189 jeans sold, the VF Corp.-owned label will donate $20 to Movember’s efforts to raise awareness of and find cures for, men’s health issues including testicular and prostate cancer. The 7 For All Mankind X Movember jeans are currently being sold through the label’s bricks-and-mortar stores and select specialty boutiques as well as online at 7forallmankind.com.

In other beard-and-mustache-related news (how often do you hear that?), the folks over at Yahoo are telling us that their search engine has seen a 517% percent jump in searches for the word “Movember” in the last week, with Minneapolis, San Diego, Seattle, Dallas and Los Angeles among the top-searching cities for the word.

While that certainly seems impressive -- and is a testament to the inroads the Australian-born movement has made into American pop culture, it pales in comparison to searches for the phrase “No Shave November” which, according to Yahoo is spiking 1166% in the same period. The cities topping that search trend include Dallas, Atlanta Columbus, Seattle and Indianapolis. We’re told, not surprisingly, that the majority of searches for both terms are coming from men.

As for the most-searched style of ‘stache on Yahoo this month? Bragging rights there go to the iconic “handlebar mustache.”
