Retail Happenings: Miansai gets hooked on Venice; Everything But Water goes monochrome

Miansai’s West Coast flagship set for Abbot Kinney

Nautical-flavored jewelry and accessories brand Miansai has picked Venice as the location for its second stand-alone store, a 1,000-square-foot space on Abbot Kinney Boulevard — it’s between Rag & Bone and Salt — that’s currently on track to open May 17.

The Miami-based company, which has been selling its nautical-themed wares — think bracelets crafted from maritime-grade nylon rope paired with sterling silver fishhooks, anchor-emblazoned rings and gold-plated screw cuffs — at wholesale since 2010, considers the new digs a West Coast counterpart to the SoHo flagship it opened in New York City in 2014.

The white-painted brick walls and walnut wood fixtures, accented with industrial touches like chunky metal gears and coiled-rope wall hangings, gives the space a minimalist man-cave vibe that’s the perfect environment to showcase Miansai’s full men’s and women’s jewelry collections (the lady’s sea-bling launched just last year), watches, small leather goods and recently launched men’s bag line.

Everything But Water opens monochrome concept shop

Swimwear retailer Everything But Water opened its first concept store in Beverly Hills Thursday. The “concept” here is that the Beverly Drive storefront will be serving up an all-white assortment of women’s swimwear, resort wear and accessories including an exclusive 26-piece monochrome capsule collection (called, appropriately enough, “White: The Capsule Collection”), featuring styles by swim brands such as Marysia, Mara Hoffman, PilyQ, Karla Colletto, Solid & Striped and Flagpole Swim.

(For the concept-curious who might darken the doorstep but ultimately opt for something a bit more colorful, the company’s other offerings can be ordered from an in-store tablet and shipped free of charge.)

According to store representatives, the 1,000-square-foot, white-walled, rattan-accented space will stick with the all-white concept until sometime toward the end of summer — at which point, it will be converted into a store that more closely resembles the retailer’s existing 95 stores nationwide.
