Pliny the Younger, $5 a chance
Beer lovers are a special breed. I don’t mean people who just like the taste of beer, or those who appreciate its, shall we say, “refreshing” qualities. I mean the hardcore beer nuts. Like those who will buy raffle tickets just in order to win a chance at tasting a rare brew.
Specifically, I mean the folks who will be ponying up $5 per chance at Beechwood BBQ in order to be one of the first to taste the annual release of Russian River Brewing Co.’s imperial IPA Pliny the Younger.
It’s Beechwood’s second annual Pliny Fights Cancer Charity Raffle, and it’s in honor of Long Beach elementary school teacher Tony Carbone who died in 2008 at age 34 from cancer.
Tickets for the 130 pints will be sold at both the Seal Beach and Long Beach Beechwoods from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15. Each chance is $5 and there is no limit to how many you can buy. On Feb. 18, there will be a drawing to determine who will get those beers. The actual raffle will be live-streamed on the restaurants’ New Brew Thursday webcast. You don’t need to be present to win -- if you’re picked you’ll be notified by email or telephone -- but you will have only 10 days to claim your prize.
And it’s all for a good cause -- according to the restaurant, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
