Duchess of Cambridge wears Max Mara to show off baby bump

The Duchess of Cambridge made her first official public appearance since announcing her pregnancy in December, and for the first time we got a hint of her maternity style. The former Kate Middleton wore a $195 Max Mara Studio wrap dress on the visit Tuesday to London’s Hope House, a residential facility for recovering drug addicts. [The Cut]

It’s been several years since designer Tom Ford has had a regular open-to-the-critics fashion show, as he as instead aimed his collections directly at wealthy fashionistas, celebrities and select fashion editors at private gatherings. So his return to a formal runway presentation at London Fashion Week on Tuesday had everyone buzzing.

The Cut was amused by Ford’s fall-winter 2013 women’s ready-to-wear show at Lancaster House, a 19th century mansion attached to St. James’ Palace, noting that guests included Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel, Carine Roitfeld, Brad Goreski and Andre Leon Talley. Champagne flowed. Good-looking, well-dressed young men were stationed about, apparently as decoration. [The Cut]

But New York Times Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn said some attendees seemed to find the mashup of beaded outfits, fringes, silk gowns, Navajo influences and more to be somewhat over the top -- puzzling at least. [NYT]

Ford himself described it this way:”Cross-cultural, multi-ethnic, happy and maximalism.” [ElleUK.com]

Meanwhile, in other news, my colleague Adam Tschorn picked up this tidbit about Heidi Klum’s latest endeavor:

Model and “Project Runway” host Heidi Klum is starring in a new Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s TV commercial and apparently she’s wearing a Tom Ford dress to boot. The outfit is a little hard to make out in the on-set photo posted by Entertainment Tonight’s Rob Marciano, but we’ve gotten confirmation from our sources deep inside the Carpinteria, Calif.-based fast-food empire, who tell us we’ll all be getting a better view when the ads start airing in March. The only thing we don’t know -- yet -- is what product Klum will be pitching.
