BET Awards red carpet: The 2013 BET Awards were held Sunday night at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles and the red carpet fashion parade did not disappoint. Among our favorites were Janelle Monae in a white Dolce & Gabbana suit, Kat Graham in a black Versace mini-dress, and Gabrielle Union in a sleek red strapless Zac Posen dress (with NBA player Dwyane Wade on her arm). But Jamie Foxx may have made the biggest fashion statement of the evening by wearing a Trayvon Martin T-shirt. [L.A. Times]

Garcetti inaugural style: About a mile from the Nokia Theatre, on the steps of L.A.’s City Hall, Eric Garcetti was sworn in as mayor Sunday evening. The inauguration was a very low-key, SoCal affair, with everything from T-shirts (worn by Moby, who performed a song with a choir behind him) and shirtsleeves (camera-happy proud papa and former L.A. County District Attorney Gil Garcetti) to a white suit and tie (City Council President Herb Wesson) and the standard-issue dark suit, spread-collar dress shirt and purple striped necktie worn by the new mayor himself.

Although Eric Garcetti has talked about his grandfather, Harry Roth, heading the Louis Roth clothing firm, and being the “tailor to the president of the United States,” Lyndon Johnson, he hasn’t yet divulged much about his own personal style.

Although we’re guessing he might be a Brooks Brothers kind of guy, he does have the build to rock a trim silhouette Band of Outsiders suit. (And what better way to show a local business you’ve got their back than to put them on yours?) [L.A. Times]

Haute couture kicks off: In Paris Sunday night, Naomi Campbell opened the fall-winter 2013 haute couture shows, walking the runway at the Atelier Versace show. Campbell, 43, looked pretty darn good in a Swarovski-studded bodysuit, modeling for the Italian brand for the first time in 14 years.

Beyonce tour rolls on: In Las Vegas on Saturday, Beyonce continued her “Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” at the MGM Grand Hotel, adding new spangly costumes by Emilio Pucci, including an acid green beaded and fringed minidress. Pucci’s Creative Director Peter Dundas drew inspiration from his fall-winter 2013-14 collection, reinterpreting the rock goddess theme for the superstar. “Dressing someone like Beyonce’ is beyond great,” Dundas said in a press statement. “She’s an incredible mix of beauty, artistry and just pure energy. Watching her rehearse before our midnight fittings made me want to run home and sketch. She’s a true icon and doing the costumes for her show was a privilege for me and for Pucci.

First lady in Africa: And in South Africa over the weekend, Michelle Obama wore a sunset-hued gazar, one-shoulder Naeem Khan dress for an official dinner in Pretoria. The cocktail dress is from the designer’s Spring 2013 collection and the event was a dinner hosted by South African President Jacob Zuma and his wife. During her Africa trip, the first lady has also been seen wearing designs by Lela Rose, Reed Krakoff and Zero + Maria Cornejo. [L.A. Times]
