Crazy about cashmere: Beyond the scarf

When it comes to knits, cashmere is king, the ultra luxe fabric a symbol of opulence and unrivaled comfort. This season, simple V-neck sweaters and checkered scarves are taking a back seat to a new wave of cashmere offerings. The traditional fabric is getting a makeover in bright colors, funky patterns and covetable shapes to wear all winter long.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Sonia striped sweater from Net-a-porter.com ($295) comes with a detachable black tulle collar for an updated twist on the classic striped sweater. Attach the collar for drinks and leave the tulle at home for a casual lunch date.

Cashmere skirts are a fun way to dress up office or party attire. The Aqua cashmere skirt from Bloomingdale’s ($117.68) features a colorful pattern and a black ribbed trim. It’s ideal with a solid top and booties.

Diane von Furstenberg’s Sabrina coat ($883) from Matchesfashion.com in fuchsia will add a breath of life to any winter wardrobe in need of a pop of color.

For a casual, cozy look, the Ann Taylor cashmere hoodie ($198) comes in eight colors, including classic heather gray, bright teal and rich pomegranate.

Start the holiday dressing season with a cashmere dress. The cashmere paw print drop shoulder dress by White + Warren ($360) is a great way to have some fun with the animal print trend.
