Warming layers
Angelenos can (and do) wear warm-weather clothing well into fall. You don’t necessarily have to mothball your favorite T-shirts and tank tops during the colder months if you have lightweight knits to layer over them.
Taking the cue, the clothing company Vince incorporates in each season’s collection a nod to the Southern California fashionista’s preference for wearing luxury casual gear -- T-shirts, tanks, leggings and sweat pants -- around town.
The bicoastal clothing company was founded by Christopher LaPolice, who lives in New York, and Rea Laccone, who resides in Malibu. The brand’s design studio is in the Miracle Mile district.
This season, LaPolice is recommending a new Vince holiday style for women: a double V-neck sweater ($260) worn over a tank top or T-shirt. Since the sweater is lightweight cashmere, it can be warming on a chilly surfside evening. “The sweater embodies the California lifestyle,” he says.
LaPolice also promotes another holiday layering knit: a boxy, 1980s-influenced cropped-waist sweater ($245) that he says pairs well with Ponte wool and spandex or suede ($895) leggings tucked into boots.
Instead of a bulky winter coat, LaPolice can picture Angeleno women preferring a paper-thin leather jacket ($945) that follows the contours of the body and slightly drapes at the neck.
Vince’s cooler-weather menswear options include a toggle sweater ($295) and a rugged flannel shirt lined in a houndstooth fabric ($195) in case you need to roll up your sleeves when the weather changes outdoors.
