Femme with an edge

Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon is no stranger to fashion. She designed the former X-Girl collection and is designer Marc Jacobs’ muse. The musician’s latest sartorial outing is with chain Urban Outfitters for Mirror/Dash in stores this month.

Mirror/Dash, in which Gordon collaborates with former Mayle designer Melinda Wansbrough and Jeffrey Monteiro of Derek Lam, features classic separates infused with the singer’s perspective as an indie-chic icon and mother of a 14-year-old. The edgy yet feminine styles comprising the collection take aim at young women -- and other cool moms -- with pieces priced under $100, including an $88 polka dot-print wrap dress, $88 cropped double-breasted blazer, $68 soft button T-shirts, $68 pleated shorts and $58 baggy T-shirt dresses.

In April, a temporary Mirror/Dash shop will open at Urban Outfitters Space 15Twenty in Hollywood. The shop will showcase new designs plus a handpicked array of music, books, art and other labels.
