Man says he’s lived on pizza only for 25 years — and he’s still going

Think you love pizza? Well, you probably don’t love it as much as this guy.

Dan Janssen, a 38-year-old woodworker in Maryland, claims to have eaten nothing but pizza for the last 25 years. Yes, that’s pizza for breakfast, pizza for lunch and pizza for dinner for more than two decades.

Seems like an easy enough task if you consider all the variations of pizza in the world. But Janssen only likes one kind.

“I usually eat an entire 14-inch pizza, and I only eat cheese pizza,” Janssen told Vice (note: adult language). “I never get sick of it.” Janssen, who doesn’t have a favorite among the major pizza chains, also only puts oregano on his pie.

So what led to his all-pizza diet? He became a vegetarian when he was a teenager for “ethical reasons” but decided he didn’t like vegetables. That, coupled with a traumatic experience in which he was force-fed stew, then thrown in a closet, led him to a life of pizza. He’s seeing a therapist about it.

Any trauma aside, here’s a little pizza nutrition info to put things in perspective. Plenty of protein, a goodly amount of fat, little fiber, zero vitamin C. This likely wouldn’t faze Janssen. He seems untroubled by nutritional concerns.

In fact, he has diabetes and, according to Vice, experiences the occasional blackout when his blood sugar level dips too low. But Janssen insists his pizza addiction isn’t causing a problem, and he plans to keep eating it. He did, however, admit that his pizza-only diet was crimping his style. He and his vegetarian fiancee can’t visit restaurants that don’t serve pizza.

But he told Vice he had no desire “to become a foodie.”

“They have to have locally grown food from around the corner .... I like processed food. I like preservatives and pizza.”

Well, all right then.
