The Bruery ‘Reserve Society’ -- easy access to rare beers

Memberships to the Bruery’s beer-subscription club, the Reserve Society, is now open for the 2014 offerings, and the $295 buy-in includes nine bottles, plus access to many of the Orange County brewery’s most sought-after brews.

Apart from the selection of bottles included in the subscription, membership benefits include the chance to purchase exclusive bottles that won’t be available to the general public, a 15% discount on purchases at the Placentia tasting room or online, exclusive pours and specialty growler-fills at the tasting room, access to special events throughout the year, and a “quality piece of the Bruery branded merchandise” (a comfy hoodie was included for 2013 subscription).

The Bruery uses the membership subscriptions to the Reserve Society, Preservation Society (a quarterly subscription that includes a unique set of beers) and invitation-only Hoarders Society to plan production levels on the time- and labor-intensive specialty, sour and barrel-aged beers that they are renowned for, and to provide capital to keep the barrel cellar stocked with wood and beer.

The brews included in the initial package with a 2014 membership will be available in January and are: 1 bottle of Bois, 1 bottle of Sans Pagaie and 2 bottles of Chocolate Rain. Membership also includes 1 bottle of So Happens Its Tuesday, 2 bottles of Rum Barrel Aged Black Tuesday and 2 bottles of Barrel Aged 6 Geese-A-Laying that will be released through 2014.

The beers included with the membership and those purchased during the monthly(ish) “allocations” can be picked-up at the tasting room (and climate-controlled storage for your bottles is included through March of 2015), or shipped within California.

New membership enrollment is open now, but there are a limited number of spaces, and the enrolment will close on Dec. 31. One word of warning if you decide to go for a membership: clear some space in your cellar, closet or guest bedroom; you’ll soon be inundated with superlative brews from one of California’s most creative breweries.
