Tinder for recipes: Swipe left or right on dinner, not tiger selfies

Share

If you’re dating in Los Angeles, you may be experiencing Tinder fatigue. It happens after you’ve spent countless nights on the smartphone dating app, swiping left on bathroom selfies you wish you’d never seen and right on people you could probably stomach a chat with.

Well, now there’s a new Tinder-inspired food app called Tender Food and Recipes. Instead of sifting through images of men posing with tigers (yes, tiger selfies are a real thing), you can browse food photography.

Here’s how it works. When a recipe comes up on your screen, simply swipe left to get rid of it and see the next one, or swipe right to save it. The app features recipes for everything from Bangledeshi-style creamy chicken korma with cardamom to late-night coffee-brined chicken and pasta and bean soup.

You can view the full recipe for a dish using the app, which also links back to the recipe’s original source.

“As a twenty-something, we are all constantly combating the impulse to just eat out or pick something up,” Tender Food and Recipes cofounder Jordan Homan told Boston.com. “But Tender gets you psyched about the prospect of making food, and it makes it easy to do so.”

Much like your ability to filter by age range and geography in Tinder, Tender lets you customize the type of recipe you’re looking for. If you only want to see recipes for dessert, you can do that.

All the recipes you’ve swiped right on are saved in the app’s digital cookbook. Swipe left and they’re gone.

And if you’ve been swiping right on bacon all night? The app is paying attention. As you swipe left or right, the app starts to pick up on your preferences and attempts to present you with recipes more suited to your tastes.

The free app is available for iPhone and Android devices.
