Vegan faux Cronuts at the Vegan Beer & Food Festival on Saturday

We’ve seen a lot of Cronut copycats since Dominique Ansel of Dominque Ansel Bakery in New York created the doughnut-croissant hybrid last year. In fact, there are plenty of places in Los Angeles making their own versions.

And now there’s a vegan one.

Real Food Daily executive pastry chef Anthony Nigro and RFD founder and Chief Executive Ann Gentry have created a vegan version of the wonder pastry called a Faux-nut.

The chef is keeping the exact ingredients a secret but did reveal that Faux-nuts are made with a naturally leavened hybrid of laminated dough and doughnut dough that is made with organic, vegan and kosher ingredients.

The dough is deep-fried in organic, GMO-free safflower oil and glazed with Madagascar vanilla bean glaze or an orange blossom flavor.

Faux-nuts are making their debut Saturday at the Los Angeles Vegan Beer & Food Festival in West Hollywood for $2 each.

The company wants to see how they are received at the event before they decide to launch them in its four restaurant locations.
