Dwell on Design adds focus on drought adaptation this year

Experience the latest in modern living as Dwell on Design, the annual design showcase, returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday through June 22.

This year’s show will feature an expanded outdoor area with an emphasis on the California drought.

Cassy Aoyagi of FormLA Landscaping will talk about “Drought Resistance and Landscaping in L.A.” on June 21 at 4:30 p.m. Manhattan Beach-based Bella Builders will display living walls fed with recycled water through an active, closed-loop hydrophobic system. Los Angeles Times book critic David L. Ulin will discuss “Energy 360: How Water Shaped Los Angeles” at 1:30 p.m. on June 22.

There will be free design consultations, displays of prefab structures and the latest Airstream trailer, and more than 200 speakers, including Brendan Ravenhill, Jonathan Olivares and designers from Commune and Al Que Quiere.

New exhibitors will include American Standard, Blu Bathworks, Casa Kids, Grow Studio, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma. Among returning exhibitors are Bend Seating, Duravit, GE Monogram, Hansgrohe and Resource.

Look for popular television host and remodeling expert Ty Pennington at 4 p.m. June 22, when he closes the show with a talk on “Better Living Through Design.”

A Coolhaus truck parked on the show floor will offer samples of its new ice cream sandwich flavor Dwell on De-Vine.
