Salt & Straw ice cream is coming to Venice and the Arts District

Share

Like the sound of a Salt & Straw sea salt and caramel ice cream cone while strolling the Venice Beach boardwalk? Or how about a scoop of Stumptown Coffee and Compartes Love Nuts while browsing art galleries downtown?

Well, you’re in luck. The Portland, Ore.-based ice cream company known for its unconventional flavors (think garam masala and cinnamon-cauliflower), is opening two new L.A. locations. A 1,035 square-foot Salt & Straw will open on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in the fall, followed by a 2,300 square-foot Arts District scoop shop in the winter.

The first Los Angeles Salt & Straw opened on Larchmont Boulevard last year.

“We’ve fallen in love with the food community in Los Angeles, and are so thrilled for the opportunity to serve new neighbors on Abbot Kinney and in the Arts District,” said Salt & Straw founder Kim Malek in a statement. “There is so much positive energy in both communities -- not only with the incredible restaurants and local food artisans, but also with regards to the creative spirit that is driving that momentum.”

But you won’t have to wait until the weather cools down to get your ice cream. The Salt & Straw ice cream truck will start scooping outside its planned downtown location Friday.

It will be parked at 829 E. 3rd St. every day, from noon to 10 p.m., until the shop opens early next year.

That means you’ll be able to get flavors like Freckled Woodblock chocolate; almond brittle with salted ganache; avocado and strawberry sherbet; and black olive brittle and goat cheese ice cream in downtown, this weekend.
