Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer won’t be getting married Saturday, Sarah Palin announced Monday on Facebook. The party, however, will go on as planned.

The couple “couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding,” the former Alaska governor wrote.

“They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held. Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway – and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at ‘the old Kentucky home’ on May 23 to celebrate life, in general!”

It wasn’t clear whether the wedding was permanently off or merely being put on hold. Meyer, a former Marine sergeant, proposed only about two months ago at a Rascal Flatts concert, and that short engagement might be why the mama grizzly posted this quote: “Trust in God’s timing. It’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart.”

Sarah Palin also gave her daughter a platform to address a tabloid report from last week that declared Meyer had a “secret wife” he’d married in 2008 -- and hinted that maybe they hadn’t actually gotten divorced, because documents about the marriage were reportedly sealed.

“Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement,” the “Dancing With the Stars” alum explained. “Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency.”

The two met last year when he was filming “Amazing Alaska” with Sarah Palin.

No matter the status of Bristol and Dakota’s couplehood, family and close friends were still “welcome to share a great bar-b-que on the farm” on what was to have been the wedding day, the former vice presidential candidate said.
