‘Khaleesi’ appears on ‘Tonight Show’ to promote Kristen Wiig’s movie

It’s not often that a fictional character appears on a late-night talk show to promote a real-life actress playing a different fictional character. But that’s what happened on Wednesday night, when Daenerys Targaryen, a.k.a. Khaleesi, a.k.a. Kristen Wiig, stopped by “The Tonight Show” to chat with Jimmy Fallon about Wiig’s new movie, “Welcome to Me.”

Wiig appeared in costume as the Mother of Dragons from HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones”; she even brought her own fake dragon to perch on her shoulder. But, strangely, Fallon insisted on referring to her by the Dothraki word “Khaleesi,” which means queen. Maybe she couldn’t be “Daenerys” for copyright reasons?

Instead, she said her name was Karen. And she revealed a lot of other things about herself in the very obviously improvised bit.

For instance, did you know that her favorite greeting is “Hiiiiii!,” and her favorite vacation spot is “the west elm of the shore,” and her hobby is playing the mandolin?

And Khaleesi has been working on a stand-up act, with lots of material about “rocks and swords and stuff.”

It’s pretty apparent that Wiig isn’t a hardcore “Game of Thrones” watcher. But she’s all set if she wants to attend Comic-Con this year.

It should be noted, however, that Daenerys Targaryen does not appear in Wiig’s new movie, nor do any dragons. That’s a special treat just for the “Tonight Show” audience.
