LeVar Burton rolls out ‘Tweeting Rainbow’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
LeVar Burton has long been an advocate for childhood literacy, most notably through his PBS program “Reading Rainbow.” The host and executive producer recently raised $5.4 million through Kickstarter to launch a new version of the beloved program through an app. But maybe Burton is setting his sights too high? Perhaps there’s a less noble but more engaging way to spur today’s youth to read? Maybe the answer lies in Twitter.
On Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Kimmel suggested that maybe Burton is moving on to Web-based communication with a new series, “Tweeting Rainbow.”
Burton appeared in a skit for which there was, yes, an oh-so-catchy theme song. And catchphrases, such as “But don’t take my word for it!” And video field trips to see how tweets are made.
There was even a dramatic reading from the Twitter feed of “Extra’s” Mario Lopez.
Kids may not be as literate as they once were, but at least they’ll be there for Burton’s upcoming Twitter-feud with Kanye West.
