Bruno Mars says ‘Aloha!’ to Honolulu with home sale

Grammy-winning singer Bruno Mars, who bought a tricked-out estate in the Fryman Canyon area last year, has sold a Balinese-inspired home in the eastern part of Honolulu for $2.7 million.

The gated estate, built in 1991, has a contemporary island vibe with reclaimed driftwood columns, stone floors and dark wood molding and ceiling treatments.

Open-space interiors with vaulted ceilings include a formal dining room, a step-down living room with a wet bar and a center-island kitchen. The master suite has a rain shower and a soaking tub for four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 4,124 square feet.

Rows of sliding glass doors give way to a paver patio with a lounge and a swimming pool with a raised spa, hedged by tall palms and tropical landscaping. Across from the pool is a covered cabana with barbecue, a kegerator and a shower area.

The nearly one-third-acre property came on the market last year for $3.5 million and was more recently priced at $2.995 million, records show. Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, bought the house from John Browning, heir to the Browning firearms company, in 2012 for $3.1 million.

Sachi Braden of Sachi Hawaii Pacific Century Properties was the listing agent, according to the Multiple Listing Service. Dolores Bediones of Locations LLC represented the buyer.

Mars, 29, has released two studio albums, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” (2010) and “Unorthodox Jukebox” (2012), the latter of which won a Grammy Award for best pop vocal album. He was Billboard’s artist of the year in 2014.

As for his new house in Studio City, Mars’ two-acre estate sits behind a gated drive with a covered lounge, an infinity swimming pool with a spa, a playground and city, canyon and mountain views. He paid $6.5 million for the 9,033-square-foot house, built in Mediterranean style in 2000.
