Man killed, guard injured in gunfight outside Inglewood nightclub

Share

A gunman was killed early Saturday morning and a security guard was injured during an exchange of gunfire at the entrance of a popular Inglewood nightclub, police said.

Witnesses said the gunman argued with the guard at the Savoy Entertainment Center in the 200 block of South La Brea Avenue just before closing time at 2 a.m., police said. He left, returned and started shooting, police said.

The security guard suffered multiple gunshot wounds that were non-life-threatening. Nightclub staff returned fire and killed the gunman, said Inglewood Police Lt. Dirk Dewachter.

Dewachter said the club is busy on weekend nights.

“They do a pretty good job of screening the people,” Dewachter said. “This is the first time I recall having a shooting there.”

No further information was available on the identities of the security guard or the gunman.
