Championship Quarterfinals

Chaminade 1, Village Christian 0 (9 innings)
Senior Veronica Barth (9-5-1) pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and sophomore Kelly Corras had a single in the bottom of the ninth and scored the game-winning run off a bunt by freshman Danielle Zymkowitz for host Chaminade (10-6-1). Senior Lauren Nydam pitched a complete game with five strikeouts for No. 12 Village Christian, which was the favorite to win the tournament.

Newbury Park 2, Harvard-Westlake 0
Tiffany Curtis (3-2) threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and Dani Spangler singled in two runs in the top of the sixth to lead Newbury Park (8-4). Shelly Madick went one for three with a double and Kristen Gallant (5-2) threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and went two for three for Harvard-Westlake (11-5).

Oaks Christian 3, Royal 2 (8 innings)
Taylor Schlopy went one for four with a triple and a run scored, Courtney Lee went two for four with a RBI and Kaslin Tucker drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning for Oaks Christian (20-0). Ashlee Veilleux pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out five, for the Lions. Oaks Christian has a 46 game winning streak. Royal drops to 10-2.

Westlake 3, Crescenta Valley 2 (8 innings)
Ava Amini went two for four and Megan Shie had two runs batted in for host No. 25 Westlake (8-4). A Warrior batter was hit in the helmet by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Lyndsey Alexander went four for five with a double, a home run and five RBIs and Jessica Patton went four for five with three runs scored to lead Granada Hills (16-6). Kim Chau and Brianna Saraceno each had two hits for La Canada (8-4).

Senior Christine Craighead hit a solo home run in the second inning and a three-run home run in the sixth inning and senior Veronica Barth pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts for visiting Chaminade.

Shelly Madick (6-3) pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and went one for three with a home run and two RBIs and Deena Margolin went one for three with a double and an RBI to lead Harvard-Westlake.

Lindsay Cunningham (4-2) threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and allowed no earned runs, Whitney Born went three for four with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Dani Spangler went three for four with two RBIs for Newbury Park (7-4).

Courtney Lee went one for four with a home run and two RBIs, Bryeanne Fitzgerald went two for four with a run scored and Amber Peterson went one for three with a triple, a run scored and an RBI to lead Oaks Christian past Birmingham (16-6).

San Luis Obispo 1, La Mirada 0 (9 innings)
Katie Burkhart pitched a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and only allowed three baserunners into scoring position for San Luis Obispo (16-2). Carey Cassiola singled home the winning run with one out under international tiebreaker rules. Alyssa Gutierrez threw a six-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks for La Mirada (14-4). Gutierrez, a junior, was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates AManda Fernandez, a senior catcher, and Tyler Lacy, a senior who alternates at pitcher and shortstop with Gutierrez. Fernandez went seven for 15 with six runs batted in and Lacy was 2-0 on the mound and didn’t surrender an earned run.

Semifinals

La Mirada 6, Lakewood St. Joseph 0
Alyssa Gutierrez threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.

Ninth-Place Semifinals

El Modena 3, Valencia 0
Sophomore catcher Alex Ramirez went one for three with one double and one RBI in the sixth inning and senior Dana Crucil (5-5) pitched a two-hit shutout to lead host El Modena (11-6) over No. 14 Valencia (12-4) at Bill Barber park in Irvine. El Modena has now upset a team ranked in The Times’ top 25 for two consecutive weeks, beating No. 3 Anaheim Canyon last week.

INTERSECTIONAL

Carson 5-8, Redondo 1-0
Priscilla Perez had two hits and one RBI and Christina Schallig hit a solo home run to leadoff the first game for host Carson. Danira Iolamo (11-5) pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks and had two hits in the second game for the No. 8 Colts (20-5). Kandy Francis scored on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning of the first game for Redondo Union (5-7).

Monica Montez drove in Sabrina Hernandez with an RBI single breaking the scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Deanna Garcia went seven innings, allowing four hits for Corona Cenntenial (7-8, 2-5).

Amanda Klimczak (14-1) pitched a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts and no walks while Emily Belandra and Katie Wheeler each had three hits and one RBI for No. 13 Diamond Ranch (15-1, 7-0) at Claremont. The shutout lowered Klimczak’s earned run average to 0.07.

PREP LEAGUE

Lauren Murphy scored the game-winning run in the fourth inning for visiting Westridge (5-1 league). Jenna Schachtner pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts, allowing one unearned run and went one for three and Genny Cook and Caitlin Evans each had one hit for Flintridge Prep (7-4, 5-1).

Pinch runner Brooke Phipps scored from second base on Elise Arrietta’s RBI single, her only hit of the day, in the top of the 12th inning and Ashley Wilson drove in the tying run on a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning for visiting Corona (11-5, 4-2), ranked No. 5 by The Times. Brittney Barger (10-5) pitched all 12 innings with seven strikeouts and was able to get out of a bases-loaded, one-out scenario in the bottom of the 12th inning to secure the win for the Panthers. Daniela Urincho (13-3) also threw 12 innings with six strikeouts for No. 4 Norco (13-3, 4-2).

Karina Slauenwhite led off the second inning with a double, and pinch-runner Emily Sudik eventually scored on Amanda Sreden’s grounder to second base to provide the only scoring Hart (7-6-1) needed. Robyn Kontra pitched a complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts and limited No. 7 El Toro (16-5) to only four hits.

Thousand Oaks 1, Fountain Valley 0 (10, tiebreaker)
Shortstop Genna Allen saved the game for No. 17 Thousand Oaks in the top of the ninth inning with a defensive play, making a leaping back-handed catch and then doubling a runner off second base, and the Lancers were able to push across a run in the bottom of the 10th. Thousand Oaks struck out 18 times against Fountain Valley pitcher Nicole LaPier, who allowed six hits, the last a single to the hole at shortstop that allowed Megan Spehar to score from third base. Spehar began the inning at second base per international tie-breaker rules. Suzanne Cominski got the win with six innings of two-hit relief; Speah pitched the first four innings and allowed one hit.

Junior Brittney Bargar (9-5) pitched a complete game two-hitter with nine strikeouts for No. 5 Corona (10-5), which has lost four of five games in extra innings.
