Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller reportedly reinjures shoulder
Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, considered among the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy, reportedly reinjured his throwing shoulder in practice Monday.
Ohio State officials declined to confirm that the quarterback, a two-time Big Ten Conference offensive player of the year, was injured again or speak to the severity of the injury, first reported by the Columbus Dispatch.
Miller, a senior, sat out spring practice after surgery on his right shoulder. He had been held out of a scrimmage and practices during fall camp after experiencing soreness. But he proclaimed last week he was healthy and ready to go.
If Miller is unable to play in the fifth-ranked Buckeyes’ opener Aug. 30 against Navy, redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett would likely get the start, backed by sophomore Cardale Jones.
Etc.
Oklahoma suspended freshman running back Joe Mixon for the season after he pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault. Mixon, the Sooners’ top recruit, is accused of knocking a woman unconscious with a punch and breaking several bones in her face last month. ... Duke tight end Braxton Deaver will sit out the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee.
