College basketball roundup: Sooners get past No. 7 Mountaineers

Jordan Woodard’s layup with 2.2 seconds left in overtime lifted Oklahoma to an 89-87 victory over No. 7 West Virginia on Wednesday night at Morgantown, W.Va.

Kristian Doolittle scored six of his 12 points in overtime and Woodard scored 18 of his 20 points after halftime in his second start since missing four games with a leg injury to send the Mountaineers (15-3, 4-2 Big 12) to their first home loss of the season.

Freshman Kameron McGusty added 17 points for Oklahoma (8-9, 2-4).

at No. 10 Florida State 83, No. 15 Notre Dame 80: Jonathan Isaac scored 23 points, including 17 in the second half, as the Seminoles (17-2, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) moved into a three-way tie atop the conference with Notre Dame and North Carolina. Steve Vasturia had 18 points for the Fighting Irish (16-3, 5-1), who had their seven-game winning streak come to an end despite making 15 of 21 three-point tries.

at No. 20 Cincinnati 81, Temple 74: Kyle Washington scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, rallying the Bearcats (16-2, 2-0 American Athletic) to their ninth straight win. Troy Caupain had 18 points for Cincinnati, including seven free throws in the closing minutes. Shizz Alston Jr., led Temple (10-10, 1-6) with 25 points for the second game in a row, matching his career high.

at No. 24 South Carolina 57, No. 19 Florida 53: Sindarius Thornwell scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and the Gamecocks’ defense smothered the high-scoring Gators much of the way. South Carolina (15-3, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) opened the second half with a 14-2 run and held on down the stretch. Florida went 0 for 17 on three-pointers.

MEN

UC Irvine 70, at Cal Poly 48: Ioannis Dimakopoulos scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Anteaters (12-9, 5-0 Big West Conference) won their seventh game in a row. Tommy Rutherford added 11 points for Irvine, which held the Mustangs (5-13, 0-4) to 24.1% shooting. Jakub Niziol scored 11 for Cal Poly, which lost its ninth straight game.

UC Riverside 71, at Cal State Fullerton 63: Alex Larsson, Chance Murray and Gentrey Thomas each scored 14 points and the Highlanders (4-11, 2-2 Big West) pulled away in the second half. The Titans (8-10, 2-3) got 14 points from Tre Coggins. The score was tied at 42 with 15 minutes left before Riverside built a 10-point lead.

WOMEN

No. 13 UCLA 74, at USC 59: Monique Billings had 28 points and 11 rebounds and the Bruins outscored the Trojans, 27-8, in the second quarter. UCLA (14-4, 5-2 Pac-12)won its third in a row while USC (10-8, 1-6), which got a career-high 27 points from Courtney Jaco, lost its sixth in a row.
