San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy underwent a heart procedure to insert two stents and was to be hospitalized until Friday.

The Giants released a statement late Thursday saying that the medical staff had been monitoring the manager’s heart after he experienced some discomfort following a physical exam Wednesday, when the reigning World Series champions reported to spring training. Bochy addressed the media on the first workout day for pitchers and catchers Thursday.

“This afternoon, Bruce was admitted to Scottsdale Healthcare Medical Center where doctors performed a medical procedure to insert two stents,” the team said. “He is resting comfortably and will be released tomorrow.”

Bochy, who turns 60 in April, has led the Giants to three World Series titles in the past five seasons — in 2010, ‘12 and last year. He came to the Giants from the NL West rival San Diego Padres before the 2007 season. In 20 years as a manager, he has a 1,618-1,604 record.
