Rams announce retirement of former running back, longtime scout Lawrence McCutcheon
The Rams on Thursday announced the retirement of Lawrence McCutcheon, the former Pro Bowl running back who was a longtime member of the personnel department and served as a national scout the last four seasons.
McCutcheon was with the Rams for 42 seasons. He will serve as a consultant to the personnel department, the team said.
“The contributions he made as a player as well as a talent evaluator in our personnel department have been invaluable to this organization,” General Manager Les Snead said in a statement. “We will miss ‘Clutch’ being around on routine basis, but he will always be an important part of our family.”
McCutcheon was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 1972 draft out of Colorado State. He played eight seasons for the Rams and ranks fourth on the team’s all-time rushing list with 6,186 yards.
McCutcheon joined the Rams’ personnel department in 1982.
