The Angels recalled C.J. Cron from triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday and inserted the designated hitter into the lineup for Saturday night’s game against the New York Yankees.

Cron opened the season as the team’s regular DH but hit just .204 with one home run and six runs batted in before being demoted to triple-A on May 25. He hit .366 with two homers, four doubles and seven RBIs in 10 games for Salt Lake.

To make room on the 25-man roster for Cron, the Angels sent reliever Edgar Ibarra back to Salt Lake. With starter Hector Santiago available out of the bullpen for the next three or four days, the Angels could afford to go short a pitcher.
