Baseball: Birmingham’s Ryan Mendoza commits to Long Beach State

Ryan Mendoza, an All-City junior catcher from defending City Section Division I champion Birmingham, said Wednesday he has committed to Long Beach State.

“I’m excited to be part of such a good program,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza was key player defensively in Birmingham’s title run last season.

“He’s the top City Section catcher defensively,” Coach Matt Mowry said.

Mendoza also decided to play quarterback for Birmingham’s football team this season.
