Two teams from the West Valley League, El Camino Real and Birmingham, have advanced to Saturday’s VIBL championship game at 7 p.m. at Burroughs. Each beat a Foothill League team in the semifinals.

El Camino Real defeated Golden Valley, 7-1. Dane Reed, the Conquistadores’ standout shortstop, threw a complete game on the mound. Cole Kitchen, ECR’s rising sophomore, had three hits.

Birmingham knocked off Hart, 7-5, in nine innings. The score was 2-2 after seven. Birmingham scored five runs in the top of the ninth, then held on. Tyler Leon had three RBIs in the ninth. Eddie Rosales had three hits and Enrique Melendez added two hits.

Adin Medina, Alex Medrano and Rosales combined on the mound for the pitching victory.

In honor of former Crespi Coach Scott Muckey, who died earlier this year, the teams will be playing for the first “Muckey Cup.” It will be a plaque with a Dr. Pepper cup attached to it with a small bag of Doritos inside, two of Muckey’s favorite snacks.
