Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Weldon, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Sunday morning 12 miles from Weldon, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor in Kern County occurred at 10:31 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 25 miles from Tehachapi, Calif., 29 miles from California City, 35 miles from Arvin, Calif., and 265 miles from Carson City, Nev.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
