Earthquake: 3.8 quake strikes near Searles Valley, Calif.
A shallow magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported Tuesday afternoon 14 miles from Searles Valley, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 2:49 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.7 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 31 miles from Ridgecrest, and 74 miles from Barstow.
In the past 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
