Work crews continued Tuesday to repair a gas line leak in Valley Glen that had prompted police to evacuate some residents.

Residents also were warned to stay away from the intersection of Oxnard Street and Hazeltine Avenue, where the leak occurred before noon.

Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Wendy Reyes confirmed that some residents had been evacuated but did not say how many.

The stretch of Hazeltine Avenue between Oxnard and Tiara was still closed Tuesday as Southern California Gas Company crews continued repairs.

Xavier Mendosa, a spokesman for the gas company, said a contractor had damaged a 2-inch gas line at 14046 Oxnard Street. He said SoCal crews responded quickly and had stopped the flow of gas by 12:25 p.m. There were no injuries.

Mendosa encouraged residents to call 811, a service that identifies buried gas lines, to avoid similar situations.
