Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Scossa, Nev.

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Thursday three miles from Scossa, Nev., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:38 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 4.3 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 87 miles from Fernley, Nev., and 97 miles from Spanish Springs, Nev.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
