101 Freeway near Universal City reopens after police activity

The 101 Freeway was closed for more than two hours in both directions Tuesday evening near Universal City after a suspicious object was spotted after a traffic accident, according to authorities.

The northbound lanes reopened about 8:40 p.m. and southbound lanes reopened about 9:10 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

The accident was reported about 6:25 p.m. near Barham Boulevard, said Sara Faden, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

During the investigation of the accident, authorities on scene reported a suspicious object, she said.

“There is an object that looks out of place, so additional units and the bomb squad are responding,” Faden said.

The bomb squad arrived about 7:30 p.m., Faden said.
