Bicyclist killed in collision with tractor-trailer near downtown L.A.

Cyclist dies after being struck and run over by a tractor-trailer near downtown L.A., officials say

A bicyclist was killed Monday when he was struck and run over by a flatbed truck in an industrial area near downtown Los Angeles.

The man, identified only as being in his early 40s, was riding southbound along the curb of South Alameda Street near East 20th Street about 1 p.m. when he was struck by the right side of a flatbed tractor-trailer, according to Los Angeles police and county coroner’s officials.

The collision caused the bicyclist to fall to the pavement, where he was run over by the rear wheels of the trailer.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Los Angeles County coroner's officials have not released the man’s identity, pending notification of his next of kin.

Drugs or alcohol were not a factor, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene, but no other vehicles remained to provide separate accounts of the collision.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact LAPD Central Traffic Division Detectives at (213) 833-3713 or Detective Felix Padilla at (213) 486-0753.
