A group of hikers discovered a dead man hanging from a door frame Thursday in an abandoned building south of the Hollywood Reservoir, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the 2400 block of Holly Drive about 3 p.m., said Sgt. Mark Cohan of the LAPD’s Hollywood Division. The body was discovered north of that location, closer to the reservoir, Cohan said.

The man looked to be about 25 years old, Cohan said. It is not clear when his death occurred. Police do not suspect foul play.

The body was discovered in an abandoned Department of Water and Power building, Cohan added. “From the way they described it, he’s probably been up there for a long time,” Cohan said.

MaryAnne Pierson, a DWP spokeswoman, said that the Hollywood Reservoir is part of the region’s emergency water supply, but she could not identify the structure in which the body was discovered.

The incident will have no effect on the emergency drinking water stored in the reservoir, Pierson said.
