Boy, 10, hit and killed by pickup truck that swerved to miss dog in Torrance
A 10-year-old boy was struck and killed by a pickup truck whose driver swerved to avoid a dog in the road in Torrance late Tuesday, authorities said.
Police found the boy in the 2300 block of Del Amo Boulevard near Crenshaw Boulevard about 9 p.m. after they received a call about the accident. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, said Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris.
The driver, a 58-year-old Los Angeles man, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Ford pickup truck traveling east on Del Amo when he swerved to avoid striking a dog in the street. Instead, the vehicle struck the boy, Harris said.
Both directions of Del Amo were blocked until shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday as authorities investigated the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Torrance Police Department at (310) 618-5557.
