Brush fire threatening homes in Pacific Palisades
Los Angeles firefighters are battling a small brush fire that is threatening homes in Pacific Palisades, authorities said.
About 160 firefighters and three helicopters are fighting the quarter-acre blaze in the 17000 block of Avenida de Santa Ynez, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said via Twitter. The fire, which was reported Sunday afternoon, threatened nearby homes but no formal evacuations have been ordered, Humphrey said.
The blaze came as temperatures dropped to near normal Sunday after a four-day heat wave. The cooling trend is expected to last at least until Tuesday, he said, but temperatures will begin warming up again at midweek, said David Sweet, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Meanwhile, the Etiwanda fire, which erupted in the midst of last week’s heat wave and burned more than 2,000 acres above Rancho Cucamonga, is now 94% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation as fire personnel mop up the remnants of the wildfire.
