Tustin man electrocuted in tree is identified
A Tustin man who was electrocuted while taking photos from a tree has been identified by the Orange County coroner’s office.
David Strohm Jr., 27, was discovered in the tree by family members about 8:40 a.m. Sunday, according to the coroner. He was tangled in electrical wire that ran through the tree and was not moving.
It took firefighters about an hour using special equipment to remove Strohm’s body from the tree in the 15600 block of South California Street, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Strohm had gone missing Saturday after posting a photo of a sunset on Facebook taken from the tree shortly after 6 p.m.
Friends and family members tried all night to reach him by phone before going door-to-door asking neighbors if they had seen him. They checked a tree in the backyard that he often climbed, but it was too dark to search from the ground.
On Sunday morning, the family found the man’s phone in the grass next to the tree and spotted him in the tree and called authorities.
Southern California Edison had to shut off the power to more than two dozen homes in the neighborhood as Strohm’s body was removed. The power was expected to be restored about 5 p.m., according to the company’s website.
“Our hearts go out to the family,” Concialdi said. “It was a very tragic scene.”
